Fob access for Yelarbon Waste Transfer Station
Fob-only access begins at Yelarbon Waste Transfer Station from 1 February 2026, restricting entry to registered users via a new electronic system - The new access arrangements follow strong community support and form the next phase of Council’s access management at the site.

From 1 February 2026, access to the facility will be via an electronic fob, and the waste transfer station will no longer be open to the public without registered access.
Council sent electronic fobs to registered users last week. Each fob is free, individually assigned, and replaceable if lost or damaged.
Deputy Mayor, Cr Rob Mackenzie, Council’s portfolio holder for Waste, Regulatory Services and Planning, said the rollout will help improve site management while keeping access simple for genuine users.
“Introducing electronic fob access will help Council limit illegal dumping and improve the overall cleanliness of the site,” Cr Mackenzie said. “With fob access rolling out from 1 February, it’s important that anyone who has not yet registered contacts Council as soon as possible.”
New entry gates and fob readers have already been installed in preparation for the rollout.
Cr Mackenzie thanked the Yelarbon community for their support of the new system.
“This has been a community-led initiative, and we appreciate the continued cooperation from residents and local partners as we move towards a cleaner, more cost-effective system,” he said.
To support a smooth transition, Council staff will be available during office hours to assist community members with any on-site access issues.
A guide on how to use the new system is available on Council’s website www.grc.qld.gov.au
To register or for more information, contact Council at 07 4671 7400 or waste@grc.qld.gov.au as soon as possible to avoid delays.
